Can You Ride ATVs on the Road in West Virginia?

There have been some changes regarding West Virginia’s law on the use of ATVs, UTVs, and side-by-sides on public roads. Under Senate Bill 690, which was passed in March of 2020, operators can now ride their vehicles on some public streets but with a few restrictions.

You should first get your ATV registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles as a “street-legal special purpose vehicle”. Your ATVs must have the required equipment to be legally driven on the roads of WV.
