10 Snowshoe Dr, Snowshoe, WV
Snowshoe Mountain is situated on the two highest peaks in West Virginia with an elevation that reaches up to 4,848ft. There are 60 trails spread across 262 skiable acres and also features three distinct skiing areas- Snowshoe Basin, Silver Creek, and Western Territory which offer all skiers of any ability the chance to have a day or night of fun.
Snow basin is serviced by 7 lifts and features easy trails for beginners and for those who want to practice and improve their skiing skills. The Silver Creek area also offers a mixture of beginner trails and intermediate to the more challenging trails for the more experienced skiers out there. The Western Territory on the other hand features a 1,500 ft vertical drop and steepers trails that are perfect for adrenaline junkies.
Snowshoe mountains enjoy the “lake effect” from being close to the Great Lakes which helps maintain their snowy slopes. Aside from this, they have invested nearly $4 million to upgrade their snowmaking and grooming technology to maintain a high-quality snow surface and the best possible skiing conditions.
230 Main Lodge Rd. Davis, West Virginia
Canaan Valley is a smaller resort that is situated in the Monongahela National Forest and has long since been a winter playground for skiing families over the years. It has a summit elevation of 4,280 feet with a vertical drop of 850 ft.
More than half of its 47 trails feature terrains that cater to beginners to intermediate skiers making it more suited for families, young and adults.
There are 3 lifts in the resort including 1 quad, 2 triples, and 1 magic carpet, with an uphill lift capacity of 6000/hour. The resort can stay in its best possible condition because of its excellent snow-making system and consistent grooming every night.
There are available lessons for beginners who want to learn the basics of skiing. Other than skiing there are also plenty of activities offered by the resort including snow tubing, ice skating, and snowshoeing.
254 Four Seasons Dr, Davis, WV
Timberline Mountains is more alive than ever, thanks to its new owners who have invested a lot into building infrastructures and renovating this great tourist attraction and ski area. One of the notable improvements is the addition of a brand-new high-speed chairlift that can accommodate 6 passengers at a time.
Plus, there have been upgrades on their base area as well as their snowmaking system.
Timberline Mountain has a vertical drop of 1000 ft with a summit elevation of 42668 ft. Although they cater to all skiers of different skill levels, the majority of the terrains are well suited for those who have greater skiing experience. Night skiing is available, but only on weekends, so it’s best to plan your ski trip during these days.
When it comes to lodging, there are condos and vacation homes available near the base area. There are also great accommodations in the nearby town of Davis which is 15 minutes away from the ski resort.
100 Old, Flat Top Mountain Road, Ghent, WV
Winterplace Ski Resort is the southernmost ski resort in West Virginia and is a popular ski area due to its close proximity to Interstate 77. Most visitors come from North and South Carolina and also plenty of local skiers from Virginia and West Virginia.
The resort has a top elevation of 3,600 ft with a vertical drop of 603 ft. Its 90 acres of skiable area include 27 trails, and a terrain park, and is serviced by ten lifts.
Winterplace is a wonderful area for learners or beginners, there are different programs available and is taught by excellent ski instructors. There are specially designed teaching areas serviced by 2 Super Carpet Lift™.
The resort has a snowmaking system that covers 100% of the trails depending on the weather.
You can also enjoy night skiing on its 26 slopes, The Terrain Park, and the Snow Tubing Park which is not available during Tuesdays and Wednesdays of the non-holiday periods.
